Oregon Coast Community Forest Association (OCCFA) is a nonprofit organization incorporated in August of 2008.
Our mission is to acquire, protect, restore and manage forest lands in Lincoln County for the long-term benefit of local communities.
A community forest allows us a say in what happens to the beautiful forests surrounding our homes. It also affords us opportunities for preserving forest land and preventing forest loss due to clear-cutting and unwanted commercial development.
The goal of OCCFA is to build a “working” community forest through the practice of ecologically sustainable forestry, returning net profits directly back to local communities through the creation of family-wage jobs and augmentation of existing county budgets for education, roads, and public welfare. Ecologically sustainable forestry keeps a forest a forest by selectively cutting and thinning as opposed to traditional logging methods of clear-cutting and stripping large tracts of land.
A working community forest provides many economic, social and environmental benefits for the community including:
* Protecting water sources
* Providing wildlife habitat
* Preserving forest land from commercial development
* Outdoor recreation
* Opportunities to observe and connect with nature
* Educational opportunities
* Local income from sustainable forestry activities
